How to Prepare for a Junk Removal Appointment

What to expect on pickup day

A&A Junk Management Team 5 min read

You've scheduled your junk removal appointment—now what? Preparing ahead of time can make the process smoother, faster, and more cost-effective. Here's how to get ready for our crew's arrival.

What to Expect on Pickup Day

When our team arrives, we'll:

  • Greet you and confirm what needs to be removed
  • Provide an on-site estimate (if you haven't already received one)
  • Load items into our truck quickly and efficiently
  • Sweep up and leave your space cleaner than we found it
  • Handle all the heavy lifting—you don't need to do a thing

How to Sort and Organize Items Beforehand

While you don't need to move items yourself, a little prep goes a long way:

  • Gather everything in one area — If possible, consolidate items in a garage, driveway, or designated room. This saves time and helps our crew work faster.
  • Separate keep vs. haul — Make it clear what's going and what's staying. A simple "take everything in this corner" works great.
  • Point out heavy or awkward items — Let us know about pianos, safes, or items that need special handling.
  • Empty containers when possible — Dressers, filing cabinets, and boxes are easier to move when emptied.

Access Requirements

To ensure a smooth pickup, make sure our crew can access the items:

  • Clear pathways — Remove obstacles between the items and our truck (shoes, furniture, cords, etc.)
  • Unlock gates and doors — If items are in a backyard, basement, or storage unit, ensure we can get in.
  • Reserve parking — If you're in a high-traffic area or building, reserve a spot near the entrance if possible.
  • Notify building management — For apartment or condo pickups, let your building know we're coming and reserve elevator access if needed.

What We Can and Can't Take

We CAN take:

  • Furniture (couches, mattresses, tables, chairs)
  • Appliances (fridges, washers, dryers, stoves)
  • Electronics (TVs, computers, printers)
  • Yard waste and construction debris (within reason)
  • General household junk and clutter
  • Boxes, bags, and miscellaneous items

We CAN'T take:

  • Hazardous materials (paint, chemicals, asbestos, fuel)
  • Medical waste
  • Tires (in most cases—ask us first)

If you're unsure about an item, just ask! We'll let you know if we can handle it or point you to the right disposal method.

Tips to Make the Process Faster and Smoother

  • Be available during pickup — You don't need to help, but being present to answer questions keeps things moving.
  • Communicate special requests — Want us to donate certain items? Need us to be extra careful in a specific room? Let us know upfront.
  • Have a walkthrough ready — A quick tour of what's being removed prevents confusion and ensures nothing gets left behind.
  • Ask questions — We're happy to explain pricing, timelines, or our disposal process.

The more prepared you are, the faster we can get the job done—and the sooner you can enjoy your newly decluttered space. Ready to schedule? Get your free quote now.
